Ava's finding spot! Part II

Please see her Birthday post below this post!

Happy 2nd Birthday Ava Marie Qi Ya!!!!!!! Part 1

Ava's finding photo

Her favorite Nanny

We dont know how old she is here?

Seeing Ava for the first time

Finally after 3 years, in our arms

Where do I start?  Last night we celebrated Ava's 2nd Birthday, her given Birthday on her adoption paperwork is January 20th, 2007.  She was abandoned on April 17th, 2007, she was left at the front of a News Paper Press gate.  Upon arrival at the orphanage after examination she was found to have a serve heart defect.  Would her Mom have kept her if it was not for her heart?  Was it too much of a financial burden to the family?  Did she hold her baby tight every night and nurse her at the breast wondering what she would do as she looked into those deep brown eyes?  Only her birth Mom knows her real Birthday.  I can not help be think over this past month "Was today the day Ava was born?"  Is her birth Mom on the other side of the world thinking about the baby girl she left very sick at the News Paper gate?  Is she wondering if she is still alive and does she ever wonder if she has been adopted and living in America and that her heart has been healed?  All these questions bring tears to my eyes and to wonder what it would be like to have to make the life saving decision for your child.

I remember going to her finding spot and standing there while all the locals moved about.  Here we were 6 Americans standing here holding a Chinese baby girl.  Did anyone recognize her?  Did anyone remember one year earlier as she laid here helpless and alone?
I had no time to get emotional last night with the craziness of the party but as the kids laid asleep in their beds after the cake and ice cream rush I could not help to come back to all those questions again.  I always wanted to be a Mom since I was a little girl.  I have two younger brothers and many many foster brothers during my childhood.  I always dreamed of getting married and having children some day.  When that day finally came I had four sons.  My oldest was a text book pregnancy and birth I did not know any better and was just happy I was finally having  my first baby after more than 3 years of trying and a very painful surgery to be given a 20% chance of having children.  His birth was a horrible experience, I will not go into all the details.  I went on to have 3 more sons and took an alternative view.  I had three beautiful peaceful, perfect home births and two of those were water births.  I was in total control and everything was just right. I did almost lose my 4th son during pregnancy and was on bedrest, all my past female issues showed up again with him and it was very scary but his birth was perfect and he is my red head so what else can I say. :-)  With all our boys we practiced Attachment Parenting, Family Bed, and I nursed all of them  for at least 2 years, one a little longer.   I love all of them very much but still had that longing for a little girl.  Every year that past that feeling got stronger and stronger.  I always thought about adoption and starting reading more and more about it.  It is funny how God works, was his plan really to send us to the other side of the world for that daughter we always wanted?  He knew all along that she was meant for us, God is good!  We are so privileged to be the parents of this little girl, God knew exactly what he was doing.  You should see my boys with her, it was the best thing that could of happened to our family.  I will say that there are still trying times, sleepless nights, tantrums, toddler messes everywhere but in the end it is all worth it.  God has big plans for her and I am so honored to be able to witness it first hand.  Thanks for listening to my ramblings and enjoy the pictures, it will probably take a couple of posts.

Help this little girl get back to China!!!

Kennedy has a chance of a life time to go back to China and visit the orphanage she was adopted from when she was 6 months old.  Her orphanage is inviting all the children back that have been adopted for a reunion and celebration.  Kennedy needs to raise $3,300 dollars to go with one of her parents.  She is the oldest of six adopted children in the family.  What a wonderful thing for this little girl to experience and go back to her birth country. I don't know her or her family but came across her blog and thought I would post it here and help her out.  I know I would want the same for my daughter.  She is selling magnets and bracelets too in the side bar, very cool!!
Please help her make her goal and tell everyone you know!!

We made it home

We have been home for a few days now and it is so nice!  We adjusted pretty quickly but then Ava starting waking many times at night so we have taken a few steps back.
She slept through the night last night so we will see what happens tonight??  Sean and I have been taken turns with naps during the day just so we can make it until bedtime.
Ava is adjusting very well, it took her about one day to get use to the dog and cat, now she thinks they are pretty funny.  She does not like loud noises so I have to hold her when the blender is going for smoothies in the morning or the vacuum.  She is full of energy and has no fear!!  She will climb everything she can including moving chairs around where she needs them.  She does not stop moving until it is time for a nap or bed.  We are quickly trying to get baby locks and gates everywhere we need them and we can not do it fast enough.  She can even open all the doors into the bedroom or other rooms.  This kid is very bright and does not miss a beat!!  We never really baby proofed with our 4 boys but it will not be an option with her.
Tomorrow will be our first day at church and I dont think it is going to go over well.  Sean and I will have to take turns every other Sunday so we can at least hear a couple of sermons a month.  There have been so many things we forgot we needed, like a stroller.  It has also been cold here the last couple of days with a lot of rain and so I found out we have no long sleeve shirts or jackets!!  She has lots of cute dress and some leggings, she is also bigger shirt size than I would have thought.  Her torso is longer than her legs so 24month tops fit her better and pants are 18 months.  In just a few more days on the 20th she will be 19 months old.  Once school starts in a few weeks time is going to fly!
Well it is 9:30pm better get the bottle ready, we have to wake up early and she is not a morning person.

Well today is the day!!!!

We are in Portland, OR at Sean's Dads.  We got here about 7:15pm last night.  Lori made a great dinner and we got to visit with family we had not seen in 1 1/2 years.  We also got to meet a new cousin "Spencer", he is 3 months and soooo cute!!!!  The older boys really enjoyed holding him and so did Auntie April!
We are looking forward to my brother coming over with his girls this morning before we leave.   Soren has not seen their other new cousin "Lois", she is also almost 3 months.
I will post pics of the new cousins later, Sean downloaded them on his computer so I will have him send them to me.
We are packed and ready to go, I cant believe it!  The younger boys are back at home having fun with their Great Aunt and Uncle's this week.  Next week my Mom will come and stay with them until we get back home.  She has a lot of fun things planned with them to keep them busy.
I better wake the rest of the crew up and get this show on the road!!!

So do you like the new look??

Did Rebecca do a awesome job or what!!!!!  Thank you so much, I love my blog!!!!
Okay, so we have two more days and we are on a jet plane.  Everything is taken care of now we have to start packing and do some last minute house cleaning.  We also need to change the car seats around for when we return and my Mom picks us up at the airport.  Two days, I cant believe it!!!!
It is going to be so hard to leave the youngest too kiddos,  I really wish we could have taken everyone and gone as a complete family.  Thank goodness for Skype, at least we will be able to see and talk to each other over the computer.
We have zero humidity where we live so we are not looking forward to the weather in Guangzhou.  I will be living in tanks and skirts and my favorite chacos!!
Well time to get packing!!!  I will also download some pics soon of Ava's room it is 3/4 finished.  Until next time....

One Week, but who is counting!!!

I cant not believe we have one week until we leave!!!  I am still working on my list, I think the only thing I have left are gifts for the nanny and director.  It seems every time I go to the store this last couple of weeks it is another $100 and I have been several times.  I also still need to super clean my house and prepare for the two younger boys to stay behind.
Tomorrow I will go shopping for new sheets for our bed before anyone else sleeps in it!!  We have one pair of King sheets that we have had for over 7 years and I just wash them and put them back on.  I would not pay anyone to sleep on them! :-)  I just hate spending the money for King sheets they are so expensive.

We are still debating whether we should bring antibiotics for ourselves?  We don't really have a doctor here yet so I don't know if any doctor would even give us any??  We have lots of other meds we are bringing.

My new face lift on my blog should be ready soon, it looks great!!  We are just changing a couple of things then it should be ready to go.  I cant wait for everyone to see it Rebecca did an awesome job!  Until next time......

2 weeks until we leave!!!

I can not believe we have two weeks until we leave!  We spent a couple of hours at the store last night getting things from our ever growing list.  We still need to make another trip, it got too late and we went home.
It felt so weird to be buying diapers and wipes again.  I nursed my four boys, then they went straight to cups so I have never done the bottle thing.  I gave up after looking at them for over 15 minutes, I dont even know where to start??
I think she will be set on clothes at least for the summer time.  I still need to get her some PJ's and shoes when we know her foot size.  I hope the clothes will fit, we have not received any updates since March so I am totally guessing on her size.
This process took so long and now everything is happening so fast!  I feel like I dont have enough time to finish everything I want to finish before she comes home.
We are still working on her room.  The curtains need to be finished and we are still waiting on the bed we order over 3 months ago!!  I am hoping it will be here this week or next at the latest.  We do have a crib so the bed is not too important but I would still just like the room to be finished because I know our time will be very limited once she is home.
Until next time......

Pictures and new look coming soon!!

The boys striking a pose while visiting family in Arizona.

I am having a gal by the name of Rebecca spice my blog up!!  So it will soon have a new look and we will have pictures too!!
Things are crazy, I am trying to start a list for travel and to make sure my two youngest will be well taken care of while we are gone.  We have my Aunt and Uncle taking care of them the first week and my Mom is coming the last 2 weeks, my brother is also helping out the whole time.  Still trying to finish up her room too!
I did a little shopping for Ava yesterday.  I bought a couple of cotton dresses, and few tops and some skirts.  I will probably buy the rest in China.  I am also waiting for the Ergo carrier I ordered to come.
Time to tackle the mountain of laundry!  Stay tune for a new look!!

If this is your first time here, please read my first post to understand what has happened over the last couple of months.

Well I did not exactly continue the next day.  Let's see where did I leave off.... the horrible phone call!  I sat there in shock and was not sure what to do??  My husband called our agency back and they said they were sorry and there was nothing they could do.  They also said they could watch the waiting child site and see if she becomes unlocked again but no guaranty.
After about 30 minutes I thought the Internet!!!  I went to every web forum I belong to and explained my story and gave her name. ( I did not know you cant put the child's name or SWI on the Internet forums.)  I sat and waited and checked my email every minute.  Within about 1 hour I got a email that said "I just received her file to review from my agency and I can help!"  Wow, the powers of the Internet!!!  The gal that emailed me never goes to the forum I posted the plea on and with minutes of my post the moderator remove her name and orphanage because it was against forum rules.  So the timing was perfect for her to be on that site, see my post before the baby's name was removed and to contact me!!!  God, works in wonderful ways!  We actually talked on the phone, she had Ava's file and was on her way to the doctor to review it.  After she read my post she decided to cancel her appointment and give the file back to her agency. (An Angel)  I called my agency to let them know and they watched the website for the next 24 hours so they could lock her file again!!  Her file was locked and we submitted all the paperwork and the rest is history!!
As I write this we are leaving in 3 1/2 weeks for China to bring home our beautiful girl!  Yikes,  I have so much to do, this will be the biggest list I will have every made. :-)  Please continue to follow our journey.

I cant believe I am becoming a blogger!

I cant believe I am becoming a blogger!  First of all I am the worlds worst speller and I have horrible grammar.
Where do I start?  I have been married for over 16 years to a wonderful guy I met when I was 16!! (I will never let my daughter read that part.)  We just moved to the Rockies last year after living in the Northwest for over 15 years.  We are both from sunny spots of the world; California and Phoenix and the "no sun" Northwest was not working for us.  We knew California was too expensive to move back and Phoenix just way too hot!  So we looked at a map and the Rockies it was.  Over 350 days of sunshine a year and the cost of living was pretty good.  So here we are starting over with no family or friends of 15 years around.
We have four sons ages 13, 11, almost 9, and 4 1/2.  Back in May of 2005 we filled out an application for adoption.  I have always thought of adopting someday and after 4 boys and a rough 4th pregnancy we thought the timing was good. We waited until July 2005 to send in the application with the payment, placements were happening quickly and we had to wait on our house refi to have the money to begin.
October 1st we started collecting the paper work for our Dossier (This is what is sent to China to be approved and matched with a child)  We finished pretty quickly and had everything by December 2005 but we were still waiting for our homestudy to be written.  By January 2006 our homestudy was finished and we were now waiting for our I-171, the final piece of paper before we could send our Dossier to China!  Well it took forever, and we did not get it back until March 2006.  On March 31, 2006 our Dossier was finally sent to China and the what we thought would be 6 month wait would began!   We got word on April 10, 2006 that our Dossier was Logged in China, this is called your LID, now we are in line!
Over the next few months as I watch referrals come in and read peoples blogs and websites I noticed a slow down.  Every month it is getting worse and worse.  My husband and I talked many times about considering special needs but we still were not sure about it.
Fast forward to September 2007, the wait is now looking like 3-4 years before referral.  We talk again about a special needs child, we called our agency and ask for a check list.  Over the next few months I looked at and research several special needs I thought we could handle.  December 7th, 2007 we send back our check list to our agency.  We also changed our age range from 18mo-3 1/2 years.  Our youngest is getting older and we were really hoping to have them close in age.
Ash Wednesday 2008 we are on our way out the door to go to church and the phone rings.  We were already running a little late and my hubby said to let the voicemail pick up.  I looked quickly at the caller ID and saw our agency name!!  I started to shake and the tears started to flow, I just knew it was a referral call!  I made my husband answer it because I knew I would not be able to speak.  They had a match for us, a little girl 3 1/2 years old with a heart condition.  We were so excited, my heart was pounding so hard!  It was 6:00pm and cardio Dr office was not open to look at her file.  I could not understand exactly what the heart condition was.  I did not sleep a wink that night and could not wait until morning to fax the paper work to the doctors office.
Eight o'clock the next morning the doctor received her paper work.  I could not stop staring at her picture, she was such a doll.  Around 12:00pm the phone rang and it was the Doctor, my heart skipped a beat, will this little girl actually be our daughter?  Well the news was heart breaking!  Her condition was very serious!!  We live at a very high altitude, 7,600 ft, and her heart would not do well here and it would make her condition worse.  We knew we could not move to sea level.  The doctor also said she had a pretty good chance of needing a heart transplant in her early 20's plus many more surgeries before that.  Our hearts sunk, we could not be hearing this correctly, we have waited almost two years for this phone call and this is not what I wanted to hear.  The next phone call I made was to our agency and I had to tell them we could not accept her.
She has been in my prayers every night that she will find her forever family and be healed.  About 2 months after I gave her file back I found a lady on the internet that was asking questions about a little girl that fit her description.  To my surprise it was her, come to find out a few days later she had three cardio doctors get back to her and they all said the same thing about her heart and this lady knew they could not do that either.
So the wait begins again.  Fast forward again, April 15th 2008, just over 2 years since our Dossier was logged in China.  Around 5:30pm the phone rings and it is our agency again.  This time I was able to answer myself,  Im a little guarded now knowing what can happen.  They have another match for us!!  Much younger this time, about 15 months old but she would be about 18 months or older by the time we had her.  Again she is a heart baby, again the doctors office is not opened and another sleepless night!!  Same routine, faxed papers to Doctor to review.  Around 12:00pm the Dr. calls me back, she has a complicated heart condition but very fixable and altitude would not bother her.  She should live a normal life after surgery with no restrictions.  My heart skips another beat and I know this is our daughter we have been waiting for!!!  I had to wait for my hubby to get off the phone so we could discuss what the Dr. said and call our agency back.
About an hour later we decide she is ours and make the call to our agency.  They congratulated us said someone would be calling back soon to get information that they needed.
Before I go any further I want to explain the way the special needs adoptions work.  Before January 2008 agencies would get a packet every three months or so with special needs children to be matched with families waiting.  Starting January 2008 China began a new process.  China now has one website that all special needs children are put on and all agencies have to share this list to find children to match with their families waiting.  China also started a new rule that the file can only be locked for 24-48 while the paper work is being completed and a family is matched!  We had no idea about this new rule, this means you have to talk to doctors and make a decision in 24 hours!!!  If you dont then the childs file is unlocked and any other agency in the world can take it.
Back to waiting for our agency to call back to get more info from us.  A few hours later the phones ring and I get a feeling that something is not right.  The voice on the other end starts to explain that somehow the file unlocked before they could enter the information and another agency took the file.   Even worse they have no way of knowing what agency has the file.  In our heart this was already our daughter and I could not believe what I was hearing!!  I was speechless and said okay and hung up the phone.  The tears fell and fell and fell!!  I went into my hubby's office and told him what happened, I was shaking by then and could not control my emotions.
Well if you are still reading you are amazing! It is almost 12:00am and I must end for tonight, I will start where I left off tomorrow and finish the rest of this roller coaster ride...our life.........
