You asked what kind of camera I use. I am a COMPLETE NOVICE. I bought a Canon Rebel XSI in January and have been playing with it ever since. I recently bought a 50 mm 1.8 prime lens and that's what I have been using.
I can completely understand the feeling of not justifying the replacement of the lens you lost. I felt that way about getting the new lens for my camera but the new lens was under $100 so somehow in my twisted mind...I justified it.
